About Me
Hi, my name is Mike Jefferson, I’m an engineer in the aerospace industry but cars are a real passion of mine. I would love to one day design and build my own cars.
I always had a curiosity about cars when I was a kid. I think that I got my love of cars from my mother. She has always had fast cars. She has had everything from a hot rodded Chevy Nova to Datsun 280Z and Z28 Camaro. I didn’t really get into cars until I got my first car in high school, a 1987 Ford Mustang 4cyl. That car taught me a lot about how to care for and appreciate a car. I eventually totaled that car in a very eventful accident I may share with you some time. I loved my Mustang so much that I bought another one as soon as I had saved up the money, my mom said she was only buying one car for me, I kept that car until I went to college.
College is where I really became the car enthusiast that I am today, before that I was someone who wanted to emulate what I saw in movies like The Fast and the Furious. I don’t think that that was a bad thing because I feel it was a necessary evolution for me. I started to read and research about anything car related. Sport Compact Car Magazine was one of the best car mags ever written, I still follow people such as Dave Coleman and Jay Chen online, anyone who knows what Technobabble is will agree with me.
While at school I joined the Import and Sport Compact car club on campus and got to interact with people who were building amazing project cars and also people like myself who were working on a budget. I eventually bought my third car after my sophomore year at school. I was looking for a second generation Eclipse GS-T or GSX but had to settle for a Cavalier Z24, I know I kinda went the wrong way on that one. The Cavalier was not the ideal car for modifying but it was simple and did respond well to everything I did to it.
With my new car in hand I started to get into Autocross with some of the other people in my car club. Autocross opened me up to so many different forms of racing; I started to watch SCCA Touring Car racing (formerly SPEED World Challenge) and Formula One racing. F1 appealed to me since it is technically the most advanced auto racing there is. I love to see how many ways the engineers of the different teams solve the same problem.
I’m also a motorcycle enthusiast, I used to have a 2004 Yamaha YZF-R6 but now I ride a 2005 Yamaha YZF-R1. I follow World Superbike and MotoGP racing and used to follow AMA Superbike racing before the DMG takeover.
